A lighthearted and entertaining read about discovering and connecting with your self, with inspiration and exercises from taoism and tai chi. BERNE, ERIC (1970), 'Games People Play' London: Penguin. Exemplifies various patterns of maladaptive behaviour that we adopt throughout life; an essential part of self-awareness. BERNE, ERIC (1972) 'What Do You Say After You Say Hello?', London: Corgi. A look at individual behaviour and the interactions between people from a Transactional Analysis perspective. CAMPBELL, EILEEN (1995) 'A Dancing Star', London: Thorsons. A wonderful book of inspirational quotations. COOPER, DIANA 'A Little Light on Spiritual Laws', Hodder & Stoughton: London. Another classic by this renowned author and healer depicting ways in which we can live in alignment with our true self; a must for any bookshelf. COOPER, DIANA 'Transform Your Life: A Step by Step Programme for Change'. A wonderfully simple, lighthearted and straightforward introduction to getting to know ourselves, and how to instigate change (nice cartoon pictures). COOPER, DIANA 'Light Up Your Life': Another lovely book to teach us about ourselves, others and how the universe works. EDWARDS, GILL (1991) 'Living Magically: A New Vision of Reality', London: Piatkus. A wonderful book with insights from many eastern and western sources on learning about ourselves and letting go of the ego. Complete with visualisations to practice. EDWARDS, GILL (1999) 'Pure Bliss: The Art of Living in Soft Time', London: Piatkus. Soft time is living in the moment, enjoying the simple pleasures and feeling centred. Hard time is when we are 'driven' and 'busy-busy' and feel anxious. We don't notice life passing yet we never have enough time. An excellent book to remind us when we are slipping back into 'hard time', to help us switch back to 'soft time'. GRAY, JOHN (1999) 'How to Get What You Want And Want What You Have', London: BCA. "A practical guide to personal success" by being aware of your needs and learning how to fulfil them. HARP, DAVID (1996) 'The Three Minute Meditator', New Harbinger Publications. A wonderful book espousing the benefits of short bursts of easy, fun meditations to help calm your mind and enhance your life. Written in a straightforward, simple and witty way, it is a delight to read. HAY, LOUISE L (1988) 'You Can Heal Your Life', Middlesex: Eden Grove. The infamous guide to getting to know yourself and learning to like yourself, and how to stay positive. HERE'S HEALTH A good basic alternative health magazine for people getting interested in natural therapies; covering natural health, mind, body, spirit issues, therapies explained, holistic living and healthy eating. The all-time classic message of re-claiming your power and taking responsibility for your life. KINDRED SPIRIT quarterly magazine available from health/new age shops covering esoteric stuff. LAMA SURYA DAS (1997) 'Awakening The Buddha Within', London: Bantam. Reviewed as Book of the Month above, it is a comprehensive guide to connecting with our True Self and all the qualities that reside there via the eightfold path. Whether you are interested in Buddhism or just interested in connecting with that space within, it is excellent. LINN, DENISE (1994) 'Past Lives, Present Dreams. How to Use Reincarnation for Personal Growth', London: Piatkus. A book to help you release the past and embrace the future. It guides you through increasing your self-awareness and helping you heal and grow by picking up clues of potential past lives, and how to actually regress to heal them. ORIAH MOUNTAIN DREAMER (2000) 'The Invitation', London: Thorsons. Based on the inspiring poem of the same name (read it here), this book dares us to get in touch with our deepest core, no matter how hot it is! REDFIELD, JAMES (1994) 'The Celestine Prophecy', Bantam, London. A novel that parallels life. In the rain forests of Peru, an ancient manuscript has been discovered. Within its pages are the nine key insights into life itself - insights each human being is predicted to grasp sequentially, one insight then another, as we move towards a completely spiritual culture on Earth. A channelled book, recommended because of its simplistic guidance towards spiritual transformation by helping us connect with our 'True Self' qualities of love, peace, harmony, gratitude, clarity, freedom and balance. An excellent personal growth book for all. SHINE, BETTY (1992) 'Mind Magic', London: Bantam Press. Positive thinking, visualisation, meditation and psychic development. SNUNIT, MICHEL 'The Soul Bird', London: Robinson. "The relationship between ourselves and our soul is explained in this gentle, poetic story, which was written for children and has since become an international bestseller for all ages". A 'Jonathon Livingstone Seagull' book. STONE, JOSHUA DAVID (1996) 'The Complete Ascension Manual' Arizona: Light Technology. Very easy to read with numerous techniques for raising your light and coming into your true self. THICH NHAT HANH, 'The Miracle of Mindfulness'(1991), Rider, London. This lucid and beautifully written guide to Eastern meditation explains how to acquire the skills of mindfulness - of being awake and fully aware. Many practical exercises in this gentle, simple book. TOLLE, ECKHART, 'The Power of Now' (2001) Hodder: London. Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. It demonstrates how to live a healthier and happier life by living in the present moment which is always perfect. If we are able to be fully present and take each step in the now, we will be opening ourselves to the transforming experience of the power of now. VANZANT, IYANLA (1998) 'One Day My Soul Just Opened Up', New York: Simon and Schuster. Guiding you through forty days of self-awareness exercises, looking at various aspects of the Self, and aiming to help you get in touch with the Divine in you. WALSCH, NEALE DONALD

A great series of books concisely providing a lot of straightforward and essential information. ANDREWS, TED (1998) 'How to See and Read the Aura', Minnesota: Llewellyn Publications. Another of his basic, practical guides with lots of information. HEWITT, WILLIAM W (1999) 'Psychic Development for Beginners', Minnesota: Llewellyn Publications. A great succinct book with case studies and 44 simple exercises to help develop your high-sense perceptions. NEATE, TONY (1995) 'Channelling for Everyone', London: Piatkus. A step-by-step guide to developing your intuition and psychic awareness. WIEMER, LIZA M (1997) 'How To Connect With Your Spiritual Guide', London: Thorsons. BAYS, BRANDON (1999) 'The Journey', Harper Collins. I can definitely vouch for it being 'unputdownable'! This is an incredible book which allows you to try the Journey for yourself with a script a friend can read to you. I've tried it myself with amazing results. BRADFORD, MICHAEL, DEER HEART, ROSALIE (1997), 'Soul Empowerment', Findhorn Press. An excellent book for self-help or working with clients. The authors describe their way of working combining healing, therapy, nlp, intuitive work to help others. Some meditations included. A comprehensive guide with plenty of illustrations on becoming aware of the aura and it's many properties. CHOPRA, DEEPAK (1989) 'Quantum Healing. Exploring the Frontiers of Mind/Body Medicine', New York: Bantam Books. A look at our health from the perspective that suggests the mind and body are inextricably linked and that we therefore have to look at people in an holistic way. A very good guide to the basic principles of the chinese art of placement which ensures smooth harmonious flow of energy in the places we inhabit. CRAZE, R (1998) 'Teach Yourself Relaxation', Teach Yourself Books: London. Helps us to learn some of the best and most widely tested methods of relaxation- methods that work and are safe, simple and practical. Explains techniques of physical and mental relaxation using such disciplines as meditation, yoga, Alexander Technique, self-hypnosis, affirmations, sleep therapy, bio-feedback, autogenic training, muscle relaxation, posture exercises, breathing and instant calming techniques. EMERY, MARSHA, 'The Intuitive Healer', Harper Collins. Helps you to connect with your intuition to guide your own healing. Packed with exercises, organised as a 'work-book'. ERNST, SHEILA AND GOODISON, LUCY (1981) 'In Our Own Hands. A Book of Self-Help Therapy', London: The Women's Press. A very good resource for therapists and clients alike, with a myriad suggestions. HOPE-MURRAY, ANGELA AND PICKUP, TONY (1997) 'Healing with Ayurveda' Dublin: Gill and Macmillan Ltd. A concise book describing this Indian healing art as well as the opportunity to work out your own type, with remedy suggestions. LINN, DENISE (1999) 'Signposts', Rider. Denise Linn argues here that the universe is communicating to us through signs. A wealth of information helping us to connect with this guidance and help ourselves on our journey. NAPARSTEK, BELLERUTH (1995) 'Staying Well With Guided Imagery', London: Thorsons. An excellent book from this pioneering psychotherapist with an abundance of meditations to help heal yourself with visualisation. Holistic mind-body-spirit healing as well as specific meditations for common physical complaints. PALMER, MAGDA (1988) 'The Healing Power of Crystals. Precious Stones and their Planetary Interactions', London: Rider. PETTER, FRANK ARJAVA (2000), 'The Original Reiki Handbook', Lotus Light. Containing traditional Japanese techniques as taught by Dr Usui, involving a more intuitive approach than has been taught by the western approach to reiki. RAND, WILLIAM L (1998) 'Reiki The Healing Touch', second edition, Vision Publications: Michigan. First and Second Degree Manual used as part of reiki training (www.reiki.org) and an excellent resource for reminding us of the basics of healing. SIEGAL, BERNIE (1990) 'Peace, Love and Healing', Rider. Containing inspiring stories of patients who have achieved remissions and miraculous cures from illnesses such as multiple sclerosis and cancer, Dr Bernie Siegel shows the reader how emotions such as love, hope, joy and peace of mind have strong physiological effects. SIMMONS, M AND DAW, P (1994) 'Stress, Anxiety, Depression. A Practical Workbook', Oxon: Winslow Press. A great self-help tool for people experiencing depression and also a good simple resource for therapists. TEBBETTS, CHARLES (1987) 'Self Hypnosis and other mind expanding techniques', California: Westward Publishing Co. Useful guide on how to get the most from your subconscious mind. YOUNG, PAM (1986) ' Personal Change Through Self Hypnosis', Virginia: The Donning Company Publishers. For therapists and clients alike, an overview of what hypnotherapy is and how it can be used for specific conditions. WILDWOOD, CHRISSIE (1997) 'The Complete Guide to Reducing Stress', Piatkus: London. Very comprehensive book including aromatherapy, meditation, yoga, mood foods, massage, healing sounds, flower essences and colour work. WHITE, RUTH (1998) 'Chakras, A New Approach to Healing Your Life', London: Piatkus. WONG KIEW KIT (1993) 'The Art of Chi Kung, Making the Most of your Vital Energy', Washington: Element Books.
