Please note
that the sections on Aromatherapy, Bach Flower Remedies, Colour Therapy, Feng
Shui and Homeopathy are not our areas of expertise and the information is from
publically available material. Therefore you are advised to seek help from a
qualified practitioner, especially if you are pregnant or have an ongoing health
condition. See DISCLAIMER.
Colour therapists are convinced
(backed up by impressive scientific evidence) that certain
colours can engender a state of harmony to body, mind and soul,
aiming to reduce stress levels and even to treat illness.
Should you feel the need for any
of these colours, introduce them by wearing an article of
clothing in the appropriate shade. If you seem to need a
particular colour(s) more often, then most definitely incorporate
the shade in your home decorating schemes.

comprehensive and informative

Reducing Stress' by Chrissie Wildwood'.
| VIOLET |
Cool, the ray of spirituality and a relaxant.
Stimulates the pineal gland (the 'third eye'), while
sedating the central nervous system. Helpful for stress
and anxiety, insomnia, skin complaints and for relieving
pain. However, it is contra-indicated when energy is
required or where there is deep depression. Lavender
is a paler variant of violet and can be used to soothe
stress and alleviate insomnia.
|
| INDIGO |
Cool, the ray of intuition and a relaxant. Helps
to reduce bleeding and excessive menstrual flow. Helpful
for pain, inflammation and swelling; also tones muscles,
nerves and skin. Purple is a variant of indigo,
depressing the sex drive in order to enhance spiritual
pursuits such as prayer and meditation. An inspirational colour. However, like blue, both indigo and purple are
contra-indicated where there is depression.
|
| BLUE |
Cool,
the ray of inspiration and a relaxant. Relieves
inflammation (particularly of the skin), helpful where
there is jaundice, lowers blood pressure, cools fevers,
aids restful sleep and engenders tranquility. Dark
blue is a variant and is said to speed the healing
of broken bones and fractures. However, any shade of blue
is contra-indicated where there is fatigue or depression.
|
| GREEN |
Cool,
the ray of harmony. Helps to allay anxiety and brings
about peace and wellbeing. It is also a tonic, but it
strengthens without stimulating. Soothes stomach and
liver inflammation and calms the nerves. However, this
colour is contra-indicated where there is anaemia. Turquoise
is a variant of green and has a calming and soothing
effect. It is helpful during periods of prolonged stress
and where there is impaired resistance to every passing
infection. A general tonic to the skin.
|
| YELLOW |
Warm,
the ray of the intellect. A good colour for energising
the muscular system and the lymphatic system, also good
for sluggish colon and for stimulating the mind. However,
this colour may be too stimulating for those who suffer
from nervous tension and insomnia. A variant of yellow is
cream, which is generally regarded as a
balancing colour with no contra-indications.
|
| ORANGE |
Warm
and revitalising, imparting a sense of joyous rapture.
Energises the thyroid gland, activates the respiratory
system. Can often be used when red cannot - though like
red, is contra-indicated where there is inflammation.
Variants of the orange theme include peach (less
exuberant, comforting and softening to the emotions) and gold
(good for healing in general).
|
| RED |
Warm
and powerful, the ray of strength and vitality. Increases
body temperature, libido, heartbeat and circulation.
Contra-indicated for fiery personalities and those with
high blood pressure or inflamed conditions. Magenta (a
brilliant mauvish-crimson) is a highly refined variant
which is better tolerated by those who find other reds
garish. It boosts vitality and is an adrenal tonic
(helpful for nervous exhaustion). Then there is the pink
ray, the softest variant of red suitable for just about
everyone, but especially fragile types in need of a
gentle revitaliser.
