What can reiki do for me?
Reiki is becoming more and more popular as people realise its ability to help us heal in so many ways. Not only can reiki help
enhance our own natural healing by speeding up recovery from short and long term
problems of the mind, body and spirit, it helps our minds and bodies
bring us back into balance. You don't even have to be ill to receive the benefits of reiki as it
promotes relaxation and stress relief, helping us cope better with life and feel whole again.
What is
reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key and can be translated 'as spiritually-guided life-force energy') was rediscovered
about 100 years ago by Mikao Usui
(above right) in Japan. Reiki is energy which can be channelled through
anyone who has taken at least Reiki I training, and out of their hands, which are placed on or near the person who needs healing; perhaps concentrating around the chakras or main energy centres around the body, or to a place it is intuitively felt needs healing. This gentle yet powerful energy is not guided by the practitioner, but finds it's own way to where it is needed the most and stimulates the person's own healing response. A receiver draws exactly the energy they need, which can make it feel different for everyone. Most people feel deeply relaxed, while some feel invigorated. Most feel warmth from the practitioner's hands, some feel the tingling energy as it goes where it needs to go; others see beautiful colours,
images or memories. It works only for the person's highest good and it heals what is ready to be healed, at the root cause of the problem on emotional, mental, physical or spiritual levels.
Reiki can therefore help any condition and works in complement with any other treatment. Full treatments usually last around an hour for
adults (usually less for children and animals) and it can, by intention, also be sent to people over distance.
Anyone can 'learn' reiki, the process of which stimulates a healing response in itself and can change your life in so many positive ways. It's a wonderful tool to have available to help throughout life; on hand all the time!

KarunaTM
and Traditional Japanese Reiki (involving separate training
courses). KarunaTM
Reiki
was 'developed' by Willliam Rand and other reiki masters in the States,
where they channelled 12 new symbols for 3 different levels. These
connect to high vibration energy which has an impact on deep healing
issues. Traditional Japanese Reiki is an Advanced course
that covers techniques that Dr Usui used to use in his practice. We
teach elements of these in our Reiki I and Reiki II classes.
How do I
arrange a session?
Sessions are
£25 for up to an hour and a half (concessions available) and held here
in our healing room in Porthtowan. You can come for a FREE initial
consultation to learn more about reiki and see if it is for you. Or

Soon (April 03) Wheel of Light Healing sessions are going to be starting
up all over Cornwall offering low-cost healing to the community at
£5(£3 conc) for about 20 minutes. We are co-chairing one in

Can I learn reiki?
Anyone can! No special
talents or gifts or experience are required to learn reiki as a simple 'attunement'
connects you to the energy and facilitates you as a channel so it can

There are many variations on the history
of reiki. Many of the
early books on reiki in the 80s and 90s came from a 'Western-Takata
reiki' viewpoint before Traditional Japanese Reiki was unearthed. There are, therefore, many variations
in practical viewpoint which may be expressed in reiki books. Frank
Arjava Petter, a Western reiki master living and teaching in Japan (and
colleagues) have undertaken extensive research which could point to the
actual origins of reiki. However, each reiki master brings something of themselves and
their experiences to their practice, which could be of interest to
readers of books written by other authors.

book to read. To some it may be controversial, but
bringing together the thoughts of three Reiki Masters in
one publication makes for fascinating reading. Lubeck,
Rand and Petter have spent many years researching and have
discovered some fascinating information concerning the

Arjava Petter writes with an affable enthusiasm for his
subject, drawing on his own life experiences to

you let go and allow it to work. What I really like about
'Reiki Fire' is the lack of self absorbed
pseudo-spirituality which pervades so many New Age and
alternative books. Reiki is actually very straightforward
- certainly it can be dressed up in all sorts of ways -
but Arjava describes it in its pure form.

What's
the difference between the various types of reiki? Numerous
forms of reiki have evolved from the Usui reiki that was
brought to the west in the 1940s. The 'Western' reiki that developed is
very much different from reiki as it began in the early 20th century. The energy vibrations
of subsequent 'new' reikis may be slightly
different, and be useful for healing different things (just like the
'Mental and Emotional' symbol in Usui Reiki is useful for healing these
problems), but the end point for them all is the same: to help heal a
person for his or her highest good.
